URL ABC
A fun little diversion started by Tim Van Damme. A simple game: Go to the address bar in your favorite browser, and type one letter. Start with “a”, end with “z”.
Table Striping with jQuery
Adding zebra-striping to your tables with JavaScript is quite easy, and even easier when using jQuery. But an issue during a recent implementation forced me to rethink the method I was using.
Long Time Coming
It’s been little over a week since I launched my redesign so I figure I better do the obligatory “Look at my updated site!” post. Anyhow… Here goes.
Thankful
Even though it is something most everybody does this time of year, I usually skip the tradition of giving thanks. Not that I'm ungrateful for the blessings in my life, just that it's not something I think to do as I'm always caught up in the other traditions of the day.
A List Apart 2008 Survey
It's that time of the year again. The staff at A List Apart have released their second annual Survey for People Who Make Websites.
Recap
It's been a busy few weeks so instead of trying to think of some new clever article I'm going to recap the events of the last fourteen days.
CSS Off Returns
In a little over 12 hours the latest CSS Off contest will be underway! For those of you unfamiliar with the CSS Off, it is a contest that puts a .psd in your hands and asks that you turn it into a semantic, standards-based site in 24 hours.
CWSA March Meeting: Making the Case for Standards
The first Tuesday of March is fast approaching and that can only mean one thing. It is time for another meeting of Cleveland Web Standards Association.
The New Home of Cleveland Web Standards
I am very proud to announce the launch of the new Cleveland Web Standards Association site.
What’s Going On
This has to be the fourth blog post in as many weeks that I have started to write. The others have been banished to the back of my mind with a little help from the delete key.
Time for a Change
Finally. I've been boring my friends and family with talk of this redesign since September. Well, I can now proudly say that it's finished.
CWSA 12.4.2007
Another meeting of the Cleveland Web Standards Association has come and gone, and my what a busy night it was.
It’s been a while.
Since I've posted anything on this site. Save for the occasional picture pulled in from Flickr or a bookmark from Del.icio.us, it has been ghost town around here.
CSS Off Update
I was away from my computer most of the day and upon returning to my desk I found out that I won the latest round of the CSS Off!
Pink for October
My friend Brendan Cullen has inspired me to go Pink for October.
Cleveland Web Standards Association
This past Tuesday I attended the most recent meetup of the Cleveland Web Standards Association. I have to say that it was without a doubt our best ever.
POSH Your Site Up!
There has been some talk around the Cleveland web scene of late asking the question: What standards should we be promoting?
A little nip here, a little tuck there …
I was a bit bored with some of the elements of my site so I decided it needed a little facelift.
TextMate for Windows?
By now, everyone I know is aware that I plan on getting a Mac. I'm sure I've bored my poor wife to tears over the subject.
Revisionist History
I have just learned about the departure of Derek Powazek and Heather Champ from JPG Magazine
Web Design Survey
A List Apart is conducting a survey of the web design industry. Take some time to fill it out. Its quick, easy and there is a random drawing for prizes.
Day in the Park
With Spring finally making itself known in the Cleveland area, we decided to take Madeline on her first trip to the local park. Its a nice little place about half a mile from our house with a great trail winding through the woods. It was a great day to get out of the house…
Getting started with OpenID
OpenID has been a hot topic lately. Most noticeably on the blogs of developers and designers, but with the recent support pledged by both Microsoft and AOL, the buzz is spreading like wildfire.
The Joy of CSS
IE6 rears it’s ugly face again. And Again, and again, and again.
Flickr is having a massage.
Flickr’s photo caching problems causing some strange behavior in my photostream today.
Happy Cog Redesign
The folks over at Happy Cog have redesigned their site. It really is amazing.
Yahoo! Yahoo! everywhere…
Yahoo! is quickly gobbling up social networks… Flickr is the latest. What’s next?
WordPress 2.1
I just upgraded to WordPress 2.1. So far so good. Most of my plugins seem to be working okay, although there is a bit of a glitch…
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
When the third season of Lost went on a brief hiatus back in November, I was a bit put off.
Importing from Blogger
I guess being an early adopter is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Somewhat Finished
I'm still working out some of the quirks on the design, but for the most part it is ready go. I would like modify the typography a bit and move some of the sidebar items off the main page to a place where they would make more sense. Having everything on the main page seems to be too busy (at least with this layout).
Design Update
Well, the design for the website is moving a bit slower than I would have hoped. I have the layout and main elements in place. The problem is that I keep going back and fine tuning bits here and there which keeps me from getting it finished.
Temporary Design
I threw this basic design together just to have something that was somewhat nice to look at when I work on my site. I just couldn't take much more of the blog sans style sheet.
Microformats Icons
Wolfgang Bartelme and Chris Messina worked together to produce a great icon set to represent Microformats on a website.
Where’s the CSS???
Someone call John Dvorak, I think my internet connection lost some css and it made a mess on my screen.
WordPress
After messing around with Blogger for over a year, I have decided to make the move to WordPress.
Halloween
Last year, when we found out that Kathy was pregnant, we made a 'bun in the oven' costume for her and I went in a chef's coat and hat.
Enough with the camera.
We take a lot a pictures of our daughter. A lot. I have a few displayed on my Flickr account, but no where near the amount we have actually taken.
Best. Movie. Ever.
I just recently re-watched my all-time favorite movie, Chinatown.
Update on the little one.
What can I say, Madeline is now over five weeks old and I think I have had about two hours of sleep in that time. Oh, well.
Daddy’s Little Girl
All I can say is that nothing can prepare you for the moment you first see your child. I was filled with complete joy and utter fear at the same time. I am now responsible for another life.
A great show. A sad turn of events.
I know I'm posting this quite late in game, but oh well. So be it.
Baby Bjorn
Yep. We did it. We registered. Baby registry that is. Its weird. When you register as an engaged couple you include stuff that you always wanted, or that she always wanted. Or something that neither of you wanted, but couldn't agree on what the other chose so you had to compromise.
Weekend Out East
I know, its been a while since I've posted. But, hey, its been busy. I know, I know, that's no excuse, but I'm using it anyway.
Summer Project
Let me preface this by saying that if it wasn't for the vision and expertise of my father-in-law, Mark Stevenson, our new deck would be a complete and utter mess if it existed at all.
Married Bliss
Well, its been a while since I've posted. In that time a lot has happened, but lets start with the Wiley-Davoli wedding.
Visit from the family.
Last weekend, my dad and brother came down for a visit. No big deal, just to drop in and catch up.
Nice view.
My wife and moved last year from a small starter home in the middle of the city of Lorain to a house on the very edge of the county. We are nestled in a small housing development right next to a small patch of woods.
Will Ferrell bringing families closer together.
This Easter I received a gift from the "Easter Bunny" (who by the way looks curiously similar to my wife). It was SNL's Best of Will Ferrell Volume 1. Let me just say that if you haven't seen this yet, log on to NetFlix and queue it up! It has some of his funniest skits from the show. Celebrity Jeopardy, Robert Goulet, Terrence Maddox, etc. All great stuff.
