my thoughts

A great show. A sad turn of events.

April 9th, 2006

I know I’m posting this quite late in game, but oh well. So be it.

arrested_devToward the end of the second season of Arrested Development, my wife and I got hooked. It has to be one of the funniest shows that I’ve seen on TV in quite some time. After watching the end of the second season, we were able to watch it in its entirety during a marathon rebroadcast over the course of a week. Absolutely hilarious! That Christmas Kathy picked up the first two seasons on DVD which we began watching immediately.

By now, of course, the third season is done and sadly the series may be done as well. Fox in their stupidity is canceling the show. There is hope that another network will pick it up (Showtime has shown some interest). But, alas, I haven’t heard anything solid.

My advice is for you to do yourself a favor and rent the first two seasons (the third hasn’t been released yet). You won’t be disappointed. Unless of course you consider a show like Freddie to be the pinnacle of television comedies.

Will Ferrell bringing families closer together.

April 5th, 2005

Will FerrellThis Easter I received a gift from the “Easter Bunny” (who by the way looks curiously similar to my wife). It was SNL’s Best of Will Ferrell Volume 1. Let me just say that if you haven’t seen this yet, log on to NetFlix and queue it up! It has some of his funniest skits from the show. Celebrity Jeopardy, Robert Goulet, Terrence Maddox, etc. All great stuff.

Probably the funniest thing on the DVD has got to be the skit with Blue Oyster Cult’s fictitious Behind the Music episode. Christopher Walken guest stars and plays producer Bruce Dickinson, yes, THE Bruce Dickinson. I don’t want to give anything about this bit away, but let me just say that if you haven’t heard the phrase, “I gotta have more cowbell!”, then you need to crawl out from under that rock. Hell, Urban Outfitters sells a damn t-shirt with “More Cowbell” emblazoned on the front.

Now back to the point of this blog entry. My nephews were over last weekend and they watched a bit of the DVD with me. They like the bit with Ferrell as Harry Carey and the one with the Roxbury guys. But when put it on the Cowbell skit, they were laughing as hard as I was. It may be that they were just laughing because I was, or maybe they really liked it, but now when I see the youngest one, he just looks at me and says “I gotta fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!”

So thanks, Will Ferrell, for bringing our family some laughs and a much repeated quote.
